School’s Out! A Send-Off from Inspire EHC
School’s Out! A Send-Off from Inspire EHC
Well, here we are. The end of another school year. If you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering how we’ve reached July already, while also feeling like the spring term was about six years long. That’s the unique magic of SEND education – time does its own thing.
But let’s take a moment to say this, loud and clear: you did it.
Through EHCP meetings, tricky transitions, sensory overloads (some yours, some theirs), joyful progress and the odd chaotic corridor dash – you’ve been there, every step of the way. And now, it’s time to pause and take stock of what an incredible job you’ve done.
First things first. Rest.
We’re talking proper rest here. Not “I’ll just nip into school to sort a few bits” rest. Not “I’ll spend just one day catching up on paperwork” rest. We mean the kind of rest that involves lie-ins, lazy mornings, tea that’s actually still hot, and entire hours where nobody needs a visual timetable or a banana at precisely the wrong time.
You’ve given everything this year – emotionally, mentally, physically – and now it’s your turn to recharge. If you want to spend a whole day horizontal watching comforting TV and eating biscuits, do it. You have absolutely earned it.
Summer is yours.
Whether you’re packing your bags for somewhere hot and sunny, catching up with friends over a drink in the garden, heading off on family adventures (or family chaos, which is more realistic) or just rediscovering the joy of silence – we hope you embrace every second.
Maybe you’ll dive into that book you’ve been meaning to read since Easter. Maybe you’ll take yourself off to a gallery, go walking, start sketching again, or sit in a café people-watching for hours. Or maybe, just maybe, you'll relish a day where no one says your name 47 times before 9am.
Whether it’s travel, family time, quiet alone-time or rediscovering a hobby, this summer belongs to you. Fill it with what feeds your soul.
And don’t forget – what you do matters.
SEND work can be equal parts heartwarming and heart-wrenching. It asks you to be a teacher, a listener, a problem-solver, an advocate, a cheerleader, and sometimes a detective. And you do it all with grace, humour, and deep care.
You’ve helped children and young people who face enormous challenges every day to take steps forward – some small, some giant. You’ve built trust, created safe spaces, encouraged independence, celebrated progress, and offered comfort on the tough days. These moments may not always make headlines, but they are powerful (and they are life-changing).
So as you move into the summer, take pride in all of it: the breakthroughs, the belly laughs, the teary moments, and the resilience you’ve shown in the face of it all. You’ve made a difference – and that deserves celebration.
From all of us at Inspire EHC…
To the SENCOs, the teaching assistants; the teachers, therapists, nurture practitioners, learning mentors, school leaders; and every member of the wider SEND community – we see you. We appreciate you. And we are inspired by your passion and your unwavering dedication to inclusion.
This summer, we hope your days are long, your suncream strong, and your email notifications switched off.
Rest well, recharge fully, and know that when you return in September, the difference you make will matter just as much all over again.
With admiration, gratitude, and a heartfelt thank you from all of us,
