SEN Teaching Assistant 

 

Location: Effingham, Surrey
Salary: £13.50 - £15.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time only - Start time 8.15am - Finish time Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4.45pm. Thursday 5pm and Friday 4pm    

 

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist school, in Effingham Surry, for students aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school takes a nurturing and inclusive approach, supporting young people to access the national curriculum in a way that suits their individual needs, while working towards meaningful vocational qualifications as they prepare for life beyond school.

 

Key Duties:

  • Safeguard and promote pupil welfare
  • Support learning and behaviour in class
  • Build positive relationships to help pupils feel safe and thrive
  • Encourage independence and personal development
  • Assist with lesson planning and resource preparation

 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Holds a Level 2 (or above) qualification in Teaching & Learning Support (desirable)
  • Has GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above
  • Has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Has knowledge of SEN, including SEMH and/or ASD
  • Takes a consistent, child-centred approach to support
  • Brings a positive and creative mindset to meet individual needs
  • Is willing to engage in behaviour support strategies, including Team Teach physical intervention if required
  • Can complete accurate and timely reports
