About the Role

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school near Ely, Cambridgeshire. The school supports pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), and Autism. All learners have EHCPs and require highly individualised, structured, and nurturing support.

We are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a strong background in SEN to provide PPA cover across the school. This role is ideal for someone confident in planning and delivering meaningful learning experiences for pupils working well below age-related expectations, and who can adapt seamlessly across different classes and pathways.

The Role – Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

  • Deliver engaging, well-planned lessons across EYFS to KS4

  • Provide PPA cover across a range of classes and learning pathways

  • Plan and adapt learning to meet the needs of pupils with:

    • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)

    • Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

    • High sensory needs

    • Non-verbal and alternative communication needs

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff

  • Support the creation of a safe, calm, and nurturing learning environment

The school offers three core pathways — Formal, Semi‑Formal, and Sensory — ensuring every learner receives the right level of structure, challenge, and support. Students present with a wide range of needs, and the successful HLTA will be someone who brings patience, creativity, and a calm, child‑centred approach.
