Home-Based SEN Tutor – near Duxford, Cambridgeshire Start: ASAP Hours: 1–2 hours per day, with flexibility across weekdays Location: Learner’s home near Duxford, Cambridgeshire Focus: Key Stage 2 English and Maths, with interest-led learning About the Role Inspire Tutoring is seeking a calm, patient and creative tutor to provide individual tuition for an 11-year-old learner who is currently unable to access school because of emotionally based school avoidance and mental-health needs. Tuition will initially take place in the learner’s home near Duxford, Cambridgeshire, where they are most likely to feel safe and able to engage. The immediate priority is to rebuild trust, confidence and a positive connection with education through short, carefully paced sessions. Key Responsibilities Deliver engaging, individualised tuition in the learner’s home. Plan accessible Key Stage 2 English and Maths activities at an appropriate working level. Use the learner’s interests—including Minecraft, science, music, digital art and cooking—to encourage participation. Adopt a low-demand, relationship-led approach and avoid an overly authoritative style. Use screen-based resources appropriately to support engagement. Monitor progress, provide concise session feedback and work collaboratively with the family, school and wider professional team. Support a gradual increase in educational engagement and readiness for future reintegration. About You Qualified teacher, experienced tutor or education professional with strong Key Stage 2 knowledge. Experience supporting learners with SEND, anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance, or barriers to school attendance. Understanding of autism- and ADHD-informed practice, including demand-sensitive approaches. Calm, reliable and able to build trust without placing unnecessary pressure on the learner. Creative and confident in adapting learning around individual interests and needs. Strong communication, safeguarding and record-keeping skills. Suitable to work in a home-tuition setting and able to travel near Duxford, Cambridgeshire. We provide education to Primary pupils who have been or are at risk of exclusion or are waiting for a new school offer. We are looking for Outreach Tutors in and around St Neots, West Cambridgeshire who have, a passion or interest in reengaging young learners back into education, experience in Autism, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs (SEMH), Childhood Trauma and at times undiagnosed needs. If you're looking to make a difference and work on a part-time basis, typically 09:00 - 12:00 or 12:30 - 15:30 Mon - Fri this is for you. SEN Tutor Responsibilities: Conduct tutoring sessions in line with the pupil's needs. Monitor and assess student progress Report the progress of students to the relevant persons Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students Identify student learning needs Guide students through the learning process and ensure their competency standards are achieved Commit to regular sessions, typically 09:00 - 12:00 Mon – Fri in St Neots, West Cambridgeshire. At times, work alongside an experienced TA/SEN TA SEN Tutor Requirements: Proven experience as a SEN teacher or Outreach Tutor Solid understanding of special needs Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to develop creative strategies for teaching Ability to plan and implement interpersonal activities Ability to build strong relationships with students and colleagues Strong organisational and problem-solving skills Ideally, own your own transport due to rural locations.
