Salary: £14.30 - £16 dependant on previous experience

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality, person-centred support within small classes (maximum 10 pupils) alongside a dedicated teaching and clinical team. You’ll use empathy, consistency, and trauma-informed strategies to create a calm, nurturing environment where every child can succeed.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to create a sense of safety and belonging.

  • Use trauma-informed practices to support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety or distress.

  • Model positive behaviour and communication at all times.

  • Adapt resources and strategies to meet individual learning and emotional needs.

  • Collaborate with the teacher, SENCO, and therapists to deliver personalised support plans.

  • Encourage independence and celebrate progress, however small, with genuine enthusiasm.

  • Promote resilience, wellbeing, and self-esteem through patience, consistency, and encouragement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • GCSE Maths and English Language (Grade 4/C or equivalent) essential.

  • Experience or understanding of working with children with SEMH, Autism, or trauma backgrounds.

  • Awareness of trauma-informed practice and de-escalation techniques.

  • Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting challenging behaviour.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be commutable to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
