Setting: Initially home-based, with scope to progress into a suitable community or education setting
About the role
Inspire Tutoring is seeking a calm, reliable and engaging Outreach Tutor – Cherry Hinton, Cambridge to provide personalised 1:1 education for a secondary-aged learner who is currently unable to access a full-time school timetable. The learner requires a relationship-led approach that reduces anxiety, rebuilds confidence and supports a gradual return to structured learning.
The successful tutor will begin by establishing trust and creating a predictable, low-pressure learning environment. Sessions will combine core academic work with activities that develop communication, emotional regulation, independence and readiness for future reintegration.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver individualised English, maths and wider curriculum sessions at an accessible level.
- Use trauma-informed, SEND-aware strategies to support engagement and reduce barriers to learning.
- Establish clear routines while remaining flexible and responsive to the learner’s presentation.
- Break learning into manageable steps and recognise progress consistently.
- Work collaboratively with family members, Inspire Tutoring and involved professionals.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, engagement, progress and any concerns.
- Support a phased transition towards community-based learning or an appropriate education setting when the learner is ready.
About you
- Experience teaching or tutoring young people with SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety or emotionally based school avoidance.
- Strong relationship-building skills and a patient, non-judgemental approach.
- Confidence adapting curriculum content and teaching methods for 1:1 delivery.
- Good professional boundaries, communication and record-keeping.
- QTS, QTLS or a relevant teaching/tutoring qualification is desirable; substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
- Ability to travel to Cherry Hinton and fulfil the requirements of the Outreach Tutor – Cherry Hinton, Cambridge role.
