We are recruiting Pupil Engagement Officers to work across schools throughout Norfolk, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, SEND and behavioural challenges. Many of the pupils you will support may be emotionally based school avoidant (EBSA), missing education or transitioning from alternative provision.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to help pupils feel safe, supported and ready to re-engage with learning.

About the role

As a Pupil Engagement Officer, you will provide SEMH-focused support to pupils who face barriers to education due to emotional, behavioural or mental health needs. Working closely with school leaders, SENCOs, teachers and pastoral teams, you will help pupils develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.

This is a newly created role within a specialist education service, offering the opportunity to help shape best practice in SEMH intervention, inclusion and trauma-informed support.

You will complete a comprehensive induction and training programme at a central Norfolk location before moving into your allocated school, where you will act as a key worker for pupils requiring consistent, relational support.

Key responsibilities

Support pupils with SEMH, SEND and challenging behaviour in school settings
Deliver behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
Build strong, trusting relationships using trauma-informed practice
Promote positive behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing
Support pupils at risk of exclusion, permanently excluded or out of education
Work collaboratively with SENCOs, pastoral teams and senior leaders
Help pupils re-engage with learning, routines and school life

Who this role is for

This role is ideal for candidates with experience in SEMH support, behaviour mentoring, pastoral support, inclusion support, youth work, learning mentor roles or alternative provision. Experience within SEND schools, PRUs or mainstream settings with high SEMH need would be highly relevant.

You will be calm, resilient, emotionally intelligent and committed to inclusive education and positive outcomes for children and young people.
