Role Overview

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students with autism and complex needs to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and personally. You’ll work closely with teachers and the wider team to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with autism and complex needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Support the class teacher in delivering lessons and promoting a positive learning experience.
  • Encourage students’ independence, confidence, and personal development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and well-organised classroom environment.

  • SEN school-based experience, including experience supporting pupils with Autism and complex social communication needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience to support students effectively.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet students’ changing needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, special needs, or related areas are desirable (or willingness to work towards them).
  • Must be able to commute to location

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and nurturing Year 7 Teacher to lead a small Year 7 class of 6 learners who are cognitively working at approximately Year 3/4 level. The pupils present with ASD and SEMH needs, and you will be supported in the classroom by an experienced HLTA and TA. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not essential; however, candidates must be willing to work towards QTS and demonstrate a strong commitment to professional development.
