Learning Support Assistant – The Role
You’ll be supporting pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Many have experienced disrupted education, trauma, or a loss of trust in school. Your role is to help rebuild that trust and reintroduce them to learning in a way that feels safe, consistent, and achievable.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building safe, trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Delivering 1:1 and small-group learning and intervention sessions
- Helping pupils re-engage with learning at a pace that works for them
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams
- Being a calm, steady presence on the tough days and a champion on the good ones
- Based in Northampton, Northamptonshire
Learning Support Assistant – What We’re Looking For
You don’t need previous school experience, but you do need:
- Resilience, empathy, and patience
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH, trauma, or challenging behaviour (education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring, etc.)
- A genuine passion for helping pupils
- The ability to stay calm, consistent, and solution-focused
- A willingness to learn and be part of a supportive team
- Commutable to Northampton, Northamptonshire
