Learning Support Assistant – The Role

You’ll be supporting pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Many have experienced disrupted education, trauma, or a loss of trust in school. Your role is to help rebuild that trust and reintroduce them to learning in a way that feels safe, consistent, and achievable.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building safe, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group learning and intervention sessions
  • Helping pupils re-engage with learning at a pace that works for them
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams
  • Being a calm, steady presence on the tough days and a champion on the good ones
  • Based in Northampton, Northamptonshire

Learning Support Assistant – What We’re Looking For

You don’t need previous school experience, but you do need:

  • Resilience, empathy, and patience
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, trauma, or challenging behaviour (education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring, etc.)
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils
  • The ability to stay calm, consistent, and solution-focused
  • A willingness to learn and be part of a supportive team
  • Commutable to Northampton, Northamptonshire

As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, you will work closely with the student, teachers, and other support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that caters to the student's unique requirements.
