About the Role

SEN Teaching Assistant (Temp to Perm)

Inspire EHC are working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in the Colchester area that is seeking a dedicated and caring Teaching Assistant to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and looking to secure a long-term position within a supportive and well-established specialist setting.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will help create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where every learner can achieve their potential.

The school supports children and young people with a range of special educational needs, including autism, and provides a highly personalised approach to learning and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students in lessons under the guidance of the Class Teacher
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of learning activities and individual learning plans
  • Help pupils to access the curriculum and engage in learning opportunities
  • Support learners with communication, social development and emotional regulation
  • Accompany students on educational visits and enrichment activities
  • Participate in a range of physical and outdoor activities where required
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to student progress reviews
  • Promote positive behaviour and respond appropriately to challenging situations
  • Support students with personal care and hygiene needs where required
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and external professionals
  • Ensure safeguarding and welfare procedures are followed at all times
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, autism or learning difficulties is highly desirable
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach
  • A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of young people
  • Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential
