Location: Near Dorking, Surrey
Role: SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:00 (Term-Time Only)
Pay Rate: £13.80 - £15.00 per hour
Contract Type: Long-term / Temp-to-Perm
About the Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant you will be supporting pupils aged 5-19 with severe social communication difficulties, complex learning disabilities, and, at times, challenging behaviours. With your guidance and empathy, you will help pupils access learning, develop life skills, and achieve the greatest level of independence possible relative to their needs. Classes are small (typically between 5 and 11 pupils), grouped by ability and social needs rather than age. Pupils follow both structured and personalised timetables, engaging in a wide range of activities including core subjects (literacy, numeracy, science) and life skills such as cookery and gardening. Many lessons are short and delivered using a multi-sensory approach. Some pupils are non-verbal and use alternative communication methods, including Makaton, symbols, or communication aids. Supporting pupils can be emotionally and physically demanding at times. You will need to help them manage feelings of frustration or anxiety and support them in regulating their behaviour. Some pupils may require personal care.
What We’re Looking For
- A reliable and compassionate individual able to commit to full-time hours
- A positive, patient, and resilient attitude
- A willingness to provide personal care where needed
- Previous experience is an advantage but not essential, empathy, consistency, and a “can do” approach are key
- A full UK driving licence and your own vehicle (due to the rural location)
What We Offer
- Access to over 20 free CPD courses
- Weekly PAYE payments at competitive rates
- A dedicated consultant to support your journey
- A welcoming and experienced school team committed to inclusion and professional growth
