Inspire Tutoring is seeking a calm, patient and engaging therapeutic tutor to support a seven-year-old Year 3 learner who is currently unable to access school consistently. The learner experiences high levels of anxiety around education, is working below age-related expectations and has experienced trauma. The immediate aim is to rebuild trust, confidence and engagement with learning before supporting a carefully planned return to school.
Tuition should be interest-led, therapeutic and delivered through low-demand activities. Sessions are expected to take place either individually in a suitable community setting or on a one-to-one basis within a communal learning environment. The provision must not involve animals.
About the Learner

- Enjoys discussing personal interests and visiting different places.
- Shows strengths in reading, spelling and mathematics.
- Benefits from a calm, relational approach, predictable routines and clear boundaries.
- May refuse activities or directions when anxious or overwhelmed.
Key Responsibilities as a Primary Tutor
- Plan and deliver 15 hours of personalised tuition across weekday mornings.
- Use the learner’s interests to create therapeutic, low-demand learning opportunities.
- Support progress in core primary subjects while prioritising emotional safety and engagement.

- Complete session records and provide concise progress updates.
- Work collaboratively with family members, the education setting, the local authority and other professionals.
- Contribute to a gradual reintegration plan when the learner is ready.
- Follow all safeguarding, risk-assessment and lone-working procedures.

- Ability to provide engaging English and mathematics learning at an appropriately differentiated level.
- A patient, flexible and non-confrontational approach.
- Strong communication, record-keeping and professional-boundary skills.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, together with satisfactory safeguarding and reference checks.
