About the Role
SEN Teacher – St Ives, Cambridgeshire
Up to 10 hours per week | Monday to Friday | Start as soon as possible
Inspire EHC is seeking a patient, adaptable and relationship-focused SEN Teacher to provide personalised, curriculum-based tuition for a Year 4 learner in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. The learner is currently unable to attend school because of significant anxiety and requires a calm, consistent educational approach that works alongside his existing outdoor alternative provision.
About the learner and provision
The learner has a confirmed diagnosis of Tourette’s syndrome. He is awaiting assessment for autism and ADHD and experiences severe anxiety, frequent tics, speech blocking, fatigue, communication difficulties and challenges with emotional regulation. The successful SEN Teacher will build trust gradually and deliver learning in a way that protects wellbeing, restores confidence and supports positive engagement. Initial sessions may take place at the family home before moving to a suitable community venue in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, where you will be working alongside one of Inspire EHC’s Support Staff.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate English, maths and wider curriculum learning.
- Use short, structured activities, clear routines, regular breaks and flexible communication strategies.
- Apply a relational, trauma-informed and low-arousal approach to reduce anxiety and support regulation.
- Adapt sessions in response to tics, speech blocking, fatigue, sensory needs and the learner’s presentation.
- Work collaboratively with support staff, family, school, the local authority and other professionals.
- Monitor attendance, engagement, wellbeing and academic progress, providing clear and timely updates.
- Support a gradual pathway towards increased independence and future reintegration into a suitable education setting.
About you
We are looking for a compassionate teacher who can combine strong primary teaching practice with an excellent understanding of SEND, anxiety-based school avoidance and emotionally based barriers to learning. You will be confident working one-to-one, able to establish safe professional relationships and skilled at adapting expectations without losing sight of meaningful educational progress.
Essential requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching primary-aged learners with SEND on an individual or small-group basis.
- Knowledge of autism, ADHD, Tourette’s syndrome, anxiety and communication needs.
- A flexible, nurturing and child-centred approach.
- Strong safeguarding awareness and professional recording skills.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, together with satisfactory references and compliance checks.
