About the Role: Nurture and Behaviour Support Mentor
We are looking for a compassionate and resilient support professional to work with young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and a range of additional learning challenges.

In this rewarding role, you’ll work alongside teachers and therapists, helping pupils feel safe, valued and motivated. You’ll be part of a trauma-informed team dedicated to improving emotional regulation, behaviour, engagement in learning, and overall wellbeing. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on support in lessons, helping pupils access learning alongside the Class Teacher.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships that help every child feel respected and understood.

  • Use trauma-informed and positive behaviour support strategies to help pupils regulate emotions.

  • Support teachers in delivering tailored interventions and individual learning plans.

  • Encourage independence, social interaction and engagement through structured and creative activities.

  • Respond calmly and confidently to challenging behaviour using empathy and de-escalation techniques.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and the wider SEN team to create a consistent, supportive learning environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or equivalent).

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD or additional learning needs.

  • A Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.

  • A patient, understanding and adaptable approach to learning support.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour strategies.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to commute to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
