We are currently partnering with an independent preparatory school in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, dedicated to providing an exceptional educational experience for all our students. They pride themselves in their inclusive environment and commitment to fostering both academic excellence and personal growth. Our partner Prep School caters for Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 pupils and has been a big part of the Cambridge, Cambridgeshire education community for several years.
1:1 SEN Support Assistant Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate team member to be employed as a full time 1:1 SEN Support Assistant to provide personalised support to a highly academic pupil with global developmental delay. The successful candidate will work closely with the student to ensure they can fully engage with our all-round education package and reach their full potential.
1:1 SEN Support Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support and guidance to the pupil during lessons and activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the pupil's Individualised Education Plan (IEP).
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to monitor progress and adapt strategies as needed.
- Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that promotes the pupil's social skills and emotional well-being.
- Facilitate participation in school activities and extracurricular programs.
- Commuting to Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, Mon – Friday 08:30 – 16:00.
1:1 SEN Support Assistant Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs, is preferred.
- A strong understanding of global developmental delays and learning differences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude are essential.
- Relevant qualifications in education, support work, or a related field are an advantage.

- Flexible Curriculum: Advocate for flexibility within the curriculum to allow for differentiated instruction. This could mean adjusting the pace of lessons, providing varied assessment methods, or using alternative resources that cater to the student's learning style.
- Emotional and Social Support: Incorporate activities that promote social interaction and emotional well-being. Small group activities or buddy systems can help the student build relationships with peers, fostering a sense of belonging.
- Regular Communication: Establish a communication plan between teachers, parents, and support staff to discuss the student's progress and any challenges they may face. Regular check-ins can help adapt strategies as needed.
- Professional Development for Staff: Encourage training for staff on understanding developmental delays and inclusive teaching practices. This can foster a more supportive and accommodating environment for all students.
- Engagement in Extracurricular Activities: Ensure the student is encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities that align with their interests and strengths. This can enhance their overall school experience and facilitate social connections.
