Your Role as an SEN Classroom Assistant:

  • Create a calm, supportive, and structured learning space

  • Assist the class teacher with engaging and dynamic lessons

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils

  • Help pupils build social skills, confidence, and resilience

  • Encourage curiosity through indoor and outdoor learning activities

  • Support positive behaviour strategies and celebrate every success

  • Adapt learning materials to suit each student’s unique needs

Please note that the role does involve some regular physical activity (e.g. interacting with students through play on the floor, and responding promptly to escalated situations).

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people (schools, care, youth work, etc.)

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practice or willingness to learn

  • A warm, patient, and consistent approach

  • Initiative (see a job needs doing... do it)

  • Passion for supporting neurodiverse learners, especially those with SEMH

  • Confidence in handling challenging behaviour positively and calmly

  • Knowledge of Safeguarding is desirable (training is available)

  • Someone who truly believes in the power of relationships in education

  • Team spirit (you will become part of one big family), flexibility, and a great sense of humour
