About the Role
SEN Classroom Assistant – Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
Term time only | Temp to perm | SEMH school
Pay: £14.30 – £16.00 per hour (depending on experience)
About the role
We are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Classroom Assistant to work within a trauma-informed SEMH school in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. This role involves supporting children and young people aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them regulate emotions, build confidence and re-engage with education in a safe and structured learning environment.

The school
The school is a nurturing, child-centred SEMH provision that supports pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, consistent and inclusive environment where every learner feels understood, valued and supported to achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities
• Support pupils with SEN and SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Help create a calm, structured and positive classroom environment
• Assist the class teacher with engaging, practical and differentiated learning activities
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, social skills and independence
• Implement positive behaviour support strategies in line with school policy
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual learning needs
• Engage in both indoor and outdoor learning activities
• Participate in physical activity, including floor-based play and responding appropriately to escalated situations
What we’re looking for
• Experience working with children or young people in education, SEN, care or youth work
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice or willingness to complete training
• Calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour support
• Confidence supporting challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent way
• Passion for supporting neurodiverse learners and inclusive education
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures (or willingness to train)
• A proactive team player with a positive attitude and sense of humour
