Nurture and Behaviour Support Mentor – Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:00
Salary: £13.80 – £15 per hour
Contract: Ongoing temporary with potential to become permanent

About the Role: Nurture and Behaviour Support Mentor
We are looking for a compassionate and resilient support professional to work with young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and a range of additional learning challenges.
In this rewarding role, you’ll work alongside teachers and therapists, helping pupils feel safe, valued and motivated. You’ll be part of a trauma-informed team dedicated to improving emotional regulation, behaviour, engagement in learning, and overall wellbeing. Key Responsibilities:

Provide hands-on support in lessons, helping pupils access learning alongside the Class Teacher.

Build positive, trusting relationships that help every child feel respected and understood.

Use trauma-informed and positive behaviour support strategies to help pupils regulate emotions.

Support teachers in delivering tailored interventions and individual learning plans.

Encourage independence, social interaction and engagement through structured and creative activities.

Respond calmly and confidently to challenging behaviour using empathy and de-escalation techniques.

Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and the wider SEN team to create a consistent, supportive learning environment.
What We’re Looking For:

GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or equivalent).

Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD or additional learning needs.

A Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.

A patient, understanding and adaptable approach to learning support.
-
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour strategies.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.
-
Ability to commute to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
