Wellbeing and Learning Practitioner – Residential Special School Location: Great Yarmouth Contract: Permanent, Term Time + 1 week Hours: 32.5 hours per week (Monday 8.30am – 3.30pm, Tuesday 8.45am – 4.30pm, Wednesday to Friday 8.45am – 3.30pm) Salary: Scale D 5-6 £25,583 - £25,989 per annum pro-rata (Actual Salary £19,242 - £19,548) About the Role We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Wellbeing and Learning Practitioner to join a residential special school for boys aged 7–16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with complex learning needs, behavioural challenges, and disrupted educational experiences. As a Wellbeing and Learning Practitioner, you will help pupils develop academic, social, and emotional skills, while providing care, guidance, and structured support throughout the school day. You will work closely with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to ensure each pupil achieves their full potential. The role is ideal for those who enjoy working in a nurturing and collaborative environment and want to make a real difference in the lives of children. There are opportunities to support pupils across primary and secondary age ranges, and additional hours may be available within the residential care team. Key Responsibilities Provide individual and group support to pupils with SEMH needs. Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning plans and curriculum activities. Support pupils in developing social, emotional, and behavioural skills. Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment. Participate in school enrichment activities and residential care opportunities. Collaborate with staff, therapists, and external agencies to ensure consistent pupil support. Skills and Requirements Experience supporting children with SEMH, complex learning needs, or disrupted educational experiences. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable Knowledge of strategies for promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive behaviour. Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to working with children. Strong communication and teamwork skills to liaise effectively with staff, pupils, and parents. Willingness to undertake training and professional development as required. Ability to work with primary and secondary-aged pupils.
